The Benefits of a Pedometer (walking meter)
The problem with Americans today is that they are not getting
enough exercise. Inactivity is a big factor in obesity. What we
need to do is become more active. And we can start by walking

According to studies, walking can reduce certain health risks

walking 10,000 steps daily. A pedometer is about the size of a
pager - clipping it on your belt serves as a reminder to stay
active.
Research indicates that 5,000 more steps per day can greatly
reduce the risks of chronic diseases. On average, sedentary people
walk only 3,000 steps daily. People who carry pedometers find
the time to walk more; whether this involves doing more household
chores, walking to the supermarket or corner store. They are more
conscious of staying active. It’s important not to be inactive
for long time periods. A pedometer is a cue to get moving.
Here are some tips to help you increase the number of steps:
- Park your car at the far ends of parking lots, or as far as
possible.
- Use stairs more often.
- Go for walks during lunch hour and after dinner – take
the whole family.
- When you’re on the phone, instead of sitting down, walk
on the spot.
- Get yourself a dog.

is most suitable to you.
